Responsibilities:

The Sr. Oracle DBA is part of a globally distributed team of highly skilled, dedicated individuals who support high-volume, multi-tier Internet applications on a 24 x 7 basis as well as Development, QA and Application Support Environments.

The Sr. Oracle DBA is responsible for database back-up and recovery verification, performance measuring, capacity planning and automating DBA tasks.

Support of all aspects of the database infrastructure including (but not limited to):
• New database builds
• Ongoing database maintenance
• Ensuring data recoverability and integrity
• Security
• Database & data availability
• Performance monitoring, tuning and capacity planning

Other responsibilities include:
• Installation and configuration of database systems.
• Creating and implementing backup schedules in a 24x7 environment.
• Understanding database statistics and collection in a 24x7 environment.
• Identifying and resolving issues, including liaising with developers for resolution.
• Shell scripting.
• Working / Coordinating with a global technology team across multiple production applications.
• Participation in a 24x7 On Call rotation and Off hour support and maintenance as needed.

Skills and Experience:
• Fluent English Written and Verbal Skills Required
• 6+ years of Oracle Database Administration including installing, patching, upgrading Oracle Databases.
• Must have 3-4 yrs recent experience in a Production Support environment.
• Strong hands-on experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service and optimum storage capability, including: query optimization, init.ora configuration, memory optimization, tablespace storage optimization, table/index analysis, tuning long-running processes.
• Strong Oracle 10G and RAC environment and configuration knowledge
• Strong RMAN Backup and configuration knowledge
• Strong ASM and Raw device knowledge
• Strong SQL and PL/SQL knowledge
• Experience working with Oracle ODI and OBIEE (a big plus)
• Netezza administration experience (a big plus)
• MySQL experience (a plus)

• Support of all aspects of the environment (hardware, OS, application software).
• Provide system administration, operational support, problem resolution, and perform hardware and software installations and upgrades as required.
• Design, implementation, testing and documentation of new infrastructure components, services and enhancements.
• Application and System health and performance monitoring including responding to production issues and capacity planning and sizing.
• Troubleshooting on a hardware/OS/application level.
• Work closely with Software Engineering and Application Support to isolate and repair problems as well as help drive the operational enhancements into the products.
• Document standards and operating and technical procedures for the system(s) and acts as a technical resource to IT staff and system users.

1. 왜 '캔커피'란 이름을 붙였나?

IT 행사에 가면 행사 중간 중간 휴식시간이 마련되어 있다. 이 시간은 쉬는 시간이기도 하지만 참석한 주위사람들과 IT 이야기를 공유(사사롭지만 상대에게는 사사롭지 않은 정보)하는 중요한 시간이다. 이 시간에 서로 편안하게 다가갈 수 있도록 마련된 것이 '캔커피' 또는 '커피 한잔'이다. 만남과 정보 공유의 연결자 역할을 하는 '캔커피'의 느낌을 커피닉스에서 옮겨보고자 'IT일정 공유'를 '캔커피'라고 붙였다.

MySQL Performance Tuning Primer Script 에서 Download 받을 수 있다.

이 스크립트는 "SHOW STATUS LIKE..."와 "SHOW VARIABLES LIKE..."정보를 얻어낸다. 바로 이 설정값과 운영에 따라 나온 수치를 비교하여 적정한 값을 권장해준다. DB서버는 반드시 운영중이어야 하며, 최소 2일 이상 운영한 상태를 권장하고 있다. 스크립트는 Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, MacOS에서 사용 가능.

이 책이 4월말쯤에 출간되었는데, 출간 전부터 관심을 갖고 있던 책이다. 목차만 보더라도 뭔가 달라보이지 않나?
목차를 보고 '오~ 지금까지 국내에 나왔던 책과는 다르구나. 꼭 나왔으면 바라던 내용이 국내에서도 볼 수 있구나~~'라는 생각이 먼저 들었다. 국내에서 잘 소개되지 않은 고급 기술, 꼭 엔지니어들이 알아야할 기술인데 뒤늦게나마 아주 훌륭한 기술을 다룬 책이다. 엔지니어로써 한단계 업그레이드를 위해서는 꼭 필요한 책이 아닐까.
